Aside from the various internal review processes within the Faculty and University, the Mining Engineering program is periodically reviewed by various engineering institutions to ensure the program meets with the educational requirements of a professional engineer.

Submissions have been made to:

• Engineers Australia (formerly IEAust), 2006. Following the review, the program was accreditated.

• Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust), 2001

• Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy (AusIMM). The Institute has awarded recognition to the MEA Mining Engineering program at UNSW for the period 1 November 2006 to 1 November 2011.
  

  The recognition citation reads
  "graduates of this program will have gained an underlying science and engineering knowledge together with an understanding of safety, management, rock mechanics, mining technologies and the mine environment to begin practising as young professional engineers.
  
  The AusIMM recognises programs that equip graduates with the necessary knowledge to become world class minerals sector professionals."
