The mining industry continues to evolve and change at a rapid rate. Professionals working in the industry need to adapt to and conquer the knowledge demands of this changing environment. Professionals are, more than ever, responsible for their own professional and career development.
The Mining Research Centre at the University of New South Wales offers a variety of short courses for people working in the mining industry or who wish to enter the mining industry and need to:
- update and hone their current skills
- learn new skills
- obtain professional qualifications in mining
eg Masters, Graduate Diploma, Graduate Certificate
- obtain statutory qualifications
eg mine manager, mine ventilation officer
The courses are ideal for those persons employed in the mining industry who wish to pursue further opportunities in mining but need the knowledge base (and/or the qualifications) to achieve that goal. For example, a geologist may wish to learn more about the technical or engineering aspects of mining with a view to becoming a mine or technical services manager.
The courses are recognised by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy as enhancing professional excellence in enabling Chartered Professional status to be obtained or maintained.
The courses usually run over 3 to 5 days. Students benefit from excellence in teaching provided by the in-house staff in the School of Mining Engineering as well as guest lecturers from industry, government and consultants. The Mining Research Centre provides a world class learning facility centrally located to all the attractions afforded by one of the greatest cities in the world, Sydney.
Participants attending the courses are from all Australian states, as well as neighbouring countries where mining is significant including Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. Comments from recent students include:
