The students visited Ulan Coal mines, north of Mudgee, on the first day of their trip. Apart from visiting both the open-cut and underground operations, the students also got the opportunity to visit their Bobadeen desalination plant. Their next stop was at Rio Tinto’s NorthParkes mines where the students got the opportunity to learn and see the block caving mining method that is undertaken at this site. Orange. Here the students visited the Open-Cut
operation.
At all mine site visits, the students also spent
time inspecting the associated milling/processing
plants where product ore is liberated and concentrated;
together with other surface infrastructure and
environmental management activities.
